Our servers are hosted in the WaveCom data center — built with N+2 redundancy and meeting Tier 3/4 standards. The data center and its services are certified to ISO 9001, 27001 and 27017.
In 2017, Estonia had no data centers with a high level of security that met all the conditions for uninterrupted server operation. In 2018, the WaveCom data center was completed with N+2 redundancy and high-quality next-generation Schneider Electric and APC equipment. TIER 3 standards were used in building the server center.
Since 2018, an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system has been implemented for data center management. Since 2019, the data center and its services have been assessed as meeting the ISO 27001:2013 information security and availability standard. Implementation and certification to the PCI DSS standard is ongoing. Data center management and critical processes are automated.
The FBI-certified access system includes fingerprints, finger vein recognition and facial recognition. Various sensors ensure that people move only within their authorized perimeter. Equipment cabinets are fitted with biometric security locks and various monitoring sensors. All actions and processes in the data center are logged.
The entire area is covered by an automatic, people-safe gas fire suppression system. The server center consists of several interconnected rooms with triple walls and waterproof floors and ceilings. The data center is shielded with metal plates.
A multiply redundant Schneider system is used to cool the server room. During cold periods, outdoor air temperature helps cool the water circulating in the system. The modular Schneider APC system increases efficiency: all cabinets are located in enclosed cold-air corridors, from which server cabinets draw cold air. Warm air moves behind the cabinet into the warm-air corridor and exits the room for re-cooling.
To ensure continuous access to data, power is connected to two different substations. If one substation fails, the data center automatically switches to the other. If both stations fail, a generator starts up. Schneider Galaxy UPS units with 20 minutes of backup time are installed in the electrical rooms.
All server cabinets are equipped with two intelligent Schneider/APC power distribution units that draw power from different electrical rooms. Some cabinets use automatic transfer switches which, thanks to dual feeds, guarantee power even for devices equipped with a single power supply. Clients hosting servers can monitor their power consumption and manage capacity in self-service mode.
Three optical cables run from the data center to key communication hubs in Estonia in different directions, of which several fiber pairs with a capacity of 100 Gbps are in use. Transmission, fiber-optic or CWDM/DWDM connections are available on request.
The data center has four Cisco Nexus 9300 series data center network switches with 2.5–5 Tbps capacity, connected to a 100 Gbps backbone network. 10 Gbps Fabric expansion modules are located in equipment cabinets and connected to the core network at 40–100 Gbps. Speeds of 1/10/40/100 Gbps are available.
Powerful Cisco ASR 9902 routers, redundant to each other on the core network, are located in different data centers and connected to different subsea cables from different transit partners. Traffic passes through two routers on the core network simultaneously.
In addition to external Arelion 100 Gbps (formerly Telia Carrier) and 40 Gbps Citic Telecom connections, each router is also connected to the RTIX internet exchange point with 40 Gbps interfaces. The diversity of upstream providers ensures the best quality of connectivity to global internet networks.
Since 2023, the network has been protected against DDoS attacks — the protection automatically detects and filters out unwanted and dangerous traffic, stops attacks, and allows servers to continue operating normally. Network gateways use the Cisco GLBP protocol for traffic balancing, as well as BGP sessions, their own AS numbers and routing.
